Our support
You can do it... but a bit of support helps!
Women with children often find it difficult to make the right choices for their working lives. Some lose confidence after taking a career break, while others fear that home life can’t mix well with work… and then there’s the challenge of finding a job that fits round family commitments.
That’s why Balance Resourcing provides practical advice and support to women who want to return to work after taking a break to raise a family.
We can help you regain your confidence, re-assess your skills and talents, improve your interview technique and find new ways to look for work.
Why use us?
We are skilled in supporting women through issues like these:
'I’ve lost all my confidence'
You’re not alone. Almost all mothers find it hard to get back to work after a long break. But we can help you regain your confidence and your energy levels. You’ll soon feel positive about working again.
'My work skills are so out of date, I don’t know where to start'
You’ll soon tap into your skills again. What’s more, you’ll have gained new ones as a mother. We can help you think positively about what you can offer an employer. And if you do need to refresh your skills with a training course, we’ll help you find one.
'How do I explain the 5 year hole in my CV?'
We can help you write job applications that make you stand out from the crowd. We’ll show you how to emphasise your skills rather than the dates of your previous jobs, and how to adapt your CV and cover letter to appeal to different employers.
'It’s years since I had an interview. I’m terrified!'
Stay calm! You just need to prepare answers to key questions and practise your interview technique. We can help you with this, and also talk you through the different types of interview that employers commonly use these days, so you know what to expect.
'The job market has completely changed. I can’t work it out'
You’re right. The job market has become more complex. A lot of it is online, and even more of it is completely hidden. We’ll show you how to search for jobs, and how to use local knowledge and contacts.
'I want to work part-time. Is that a realistic goal?'
Many women want a job that will fit round their family. The good news is that more and more employers are turning to part-time work as a way of improving efficiency in their business. So finding a part-time job is not an impossible goal. We can guide you through the ins and outs of how to look for part-time work, and how to manage your work/family commitments.
Free support
We run a programme of support and advice for women who want to get back to work after a break to raise a family.
It’s a practical and fast paced programme, aimed at women who are keen to get a job within the next six months.
It's free to most women who have children and are not currently working (or work less than 8 hours per week). Places are subject to availability. To find out if we can offer you a place.
Read below to find out how the programme works, or click here to find out about the types of reasons why you might benefit from our support.
Introduction session
The programme starts with this taster session. You’ll get to know us better and find out more about what we can offer you. You’ll also begin to focus on your work skills and how you can get them across to employers through your CV.
One to one session
You’ll then have an individual session with one of our career coaches. Together, we’ll discuss your skills and the job you’re looking for. You’ll identify the areas where you need more support and decide on the next steps you need to take.
If you need help with finding training courses, sorting concerns about benefits, how to set up your own business or any other specific issues, we’ll arrange further support for you, or refer you to the right organisation, as necessary.
Workshops
You can pick and choose from any of the following workshops, depending on your needs:
• Focus on you – in this workshop you’ll focus on your values, skills, past experience and what you now want from a job. From there, you’ll build your confidence in what you can offer an employer.
• Making great applications – this is where you’ll learn how to make your job application stand out from the crowd. You’ll work on how to impress an employer through a strong and clear application form, CV or cover letter.
• Interview success – tips on preparing answers to likely questions, how to get across points that you want to make (even if you’re not asked about them!) how to dress, body language... all this and more.
• Your job search – at this workshop you’ll get ideas on how to look for jobs, including how to find part-time work that fits round your family. You’ll also learn how to focus your search on jobs you really want to do, and where you’re well qualified so likely to succeed.
