A part-time job at a senior level
Anita didn’t believe that ‘senior’ and ‘part-time’ could go hand in hand. She has now been placed as Director of Partnerships at an organisation committed to urban regeneration.
Anita manages four of her organisation’s 17 members of staff. Before her move she was head of department at a skills council, where she managed a revenue budget of £20m.
Anita says: “I never thought I could find a job at my level, with the part-time hours I wanted, particularly since I had taken time out to have a ‘late’ gap year. When it came to making that journey back to work, the combination of looking for a senior role on a part-time basis and after a career break made me think it just wouldn’t be possible, so it was great to be placed this fantastic position.
“If I could have written my own job description, this would be it – I have never been happier. My organisation is very supportive of flexible working structures, as they work brilliantly for business. I have set days ‘penciled in’ but these can be changed to fit around important meetings and likewise my own needs.”
Back in work – after 15 years at home with the kids
Rachel resigned from her role as a personal assistant 15 years ago, so she could raise her three children and enjoy their early years.
When her youngest started primary school, Rachel began to think about finding work and started a City and Guilds qualification in Computer Studies. Rachel then heard about Balance Resourcing through her son’s school, and registered.
“Doing the City and Guilds helped” says Rachel, “but I didn’t know where to go from there – how do you start a CV after 15 years of not working?”
Rachel received help and guidance from Balance Resourcing in order to help her to figure out what she really wanted to do, give her advice on practical matters like CV writing and interview skills and, most importantly of all, helped her to build her confidence back up. Rachel positions for two office-based roles following the support – and was successful with her second.
Rachel says: “I was so, so nervous about getting back into work, particularly after the length of my career break. Balance Resourcing made me realise that:
- there are other women out there in the same boat as me
- I have a wealth of skills and experience at my fingertips that employers actually really value.
I am now about to start a fantastic job two days a week as an advisor at a health and social care organisation. I’m really excited about it. Thank you for all your help!”
